2016 was a breakout year for Melbourne based Deep Creek Road – the band recorded their first #1 with the single ‘What If I was Willing,’ which also reached #8 on the Country Music Channel Chart (CMC). With the follow up single ‘Anchor, the band achieved the lofty feet of having the #1 most played song on Australian Country Radio for the whole of 2016. It was also featured on Qantas in flight radio worldwide. Accordingly, Deep Creek Road played most of Australia’s Major country music festivals including CMC Rocks, Broadbeach Country Music Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, Snowy Mountains Country Music Festival, Live on the lawn, Mt Isa Rodeo and many more. Deep Creek Road were also nominated for a CMC music award for best new artist for the 2016 awards and won the Planet Country award for best Australian group or Duo.
Deep Creek Road is a country rock band with members based in Perth & Melbourne, Australia. The debut cd, Cowboy on the Run was released in May of 2013. The first single ‘Here and Gone’ was in national radio service for many months and received extensive airplay on over 200 radio stations. July & August of 2013 saw the band head to Nashville where they did extensive songwriting with local writers as well as performing in downtown Nashville with Smith Curry (Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean) accompanying on Dobro
2014 saw Deep Creek Road play their first Tamworth Country Music Festival, release their second single and video, ‘Cowboy on the run,’ and perform a promo tour through VIC. NSW and QLD to support the release. The band headed to Nashville in May of 2014 for further songwriting and recording sessions. Deep Creek Road recorded its 3rd single, ‘I Wanna See Ur Crazy,’ in Nashville with Kelly Schoenfeld (Garth Brooks, Sara Evans) It stayed in the country radio chart top 40 for over 3 months and was the first release off the new ep of the same name. January of 2015 saw the band do their second Tasmanian tour followed by a second Tamworth Festival, a performance at Newcastle’s Australia Day Festival and the Melbourne Live on the Lawn Festival. DCR then toured throughout Victoria, NSW and North QLD. In May 2015 Steve signed a contract with CMT (Country Music Television in the USA) to become one of the composers for instrumental music used for their TV shows. In August the band played their first Gympie Music Muster to a packed house, and in October 2015 became one of the acts featured on ABC records new cd release ‘Hit Country 2016’ which debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart.
In 2017 Deep Creek Road released the poignant ‘If you only knew me when,’ and in 2018 released their first single not from the first 2 eps. The track was ‘Crazy Blue.’ Similarly in 2019 the band released ‘Fast as your car,’ coinciding with a 4th Tamworth Country Music Festival appearance. At the time of writing (Feb 2021) Deep Creek Road is in preparation to record a new single and commence touring, covid permitting!
